Spices, Cloves

Cloves are the rich, brown, dried, unopened flower buds of Syzygium aromaticum, an evergreen tree in the myrtle family. The name comes from the French word "clou"  meaning nail.

Cloves primarily come from Madagascar, Brazil, Panang, and Ceylon. They have a distinctive strong, pungent, and sweet flavor. They're also an amazing source of antioxidants packing 60 times the free-radical fighting power of blueberries!

Ground cloves add spicy depth to gingersnaps, cookies, applesauce, muffins, cakes, and other sweets.
