Spices, Nutmeg

Nutmeg is the seed of Myristica fragrans, an evergreen tree. The outer membrane of nutmeg is actually the spice mace.

Nutmeg's warm flavor is delicious in fruit dishes, and milk-based desserts, as well as spinach, squash and potato dishes.

Whole nutmeg freshly ground with a grater has a far superior flavor to ground, packaged nutmeg.

While no information is currently available on the antioxidant ability (or ORAC) of nutmeg, it is presumed to be high in antioxidants.
