Sweeteners, Cane Sugar

Cane sugar is the unrefined version of the common white sugar. Since is it less processed, it maintains a natural golden hue and a full-body flavor. It is not to be confused with brown sugar, which is refined white sugar with molasses added to it.

Cane sugar is sucrose, meaning it is made up of two sugar molecules: glucose and fructose. The body processes these as carbohydrates, releasing insulin to the cells to use for immediate energy.

Too much sugar can cause a spike in insulin – the “fat-storage hormone." Not only can too many carbohydrates promote weight gain, but also diabetes, heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s and tooth decay.

Sugar – from any source – should be consumed in very limited quantities. Be sure to opt for organic cane sugar to avoid cancer-causing pesticides that may be present in the crop production.
