Seaweed, Dulse

Dulse is a red alga found in the northern parts of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Due to its salty, mild-smoky flavor, it is commonly sold as a snack or as flakes for a flavor enhancement.

But dulse’s benefits go beyond boosting flavor. In fact, dulse is rich in health-promoting minerals necessary for optimal wellness. It is a great option for vegetarians as it has not only a high level of plant-based protein but also iron, vitamin B-12 and polyunsaturated fatty acids omega-3 and omega-6.

The polysaccharides, or long chain sugars, found in dulse help detoxify the body as well as boost the immune system. Dulse also contains antioxidant carotenoids that fight free radicals and support eye health, as well as significant amounts of iodine, a nutrient that is vital for growth and supports healthy thyroid functioning.
