Vinegar, Balsamic

Balsamic vinegar is made from the fermentation of pressed grapes cooked down and aged in wooden barrels. Originally from Italy, it is a fruity, syrupy liquid that has been used for centuries as a flavorful addition to foods.

In addition to its delicious profile, balsamic vinegar has polyphenols that helps lower bad cholesterol levels, fight against cancer, and repair damage caused by free radicals. It also has been found to help stabilize blood glucose levels and improve insulin levels for those with diabetes.

Because balsamic vinegar is derived from grapes – a crop on the Dirty Dozen list of those most contaminated with pesticides – be sure to choose organic balsamic vinegar.
