Alcohol, Brandy

Brandy, brandywine, or “eau-de-vie” (the water of life) is a spirit distilled from wine or fermented fruit. It may go by other names depending on the fruit it is made from, but cognac, the most commonly consumed brandy, gets its name from the region in France where it is produced.

Since brandy has such a concentrated fruit content, it is high in antioxidants and phytonutrients including ellagic acid, a natural cancer fighting agent that works against cancer cell growth. It also contains polyphenols that help fight inflammation.

It is advised that despite these benefits, you should always consume alcohol in moderation. Brandy is valued and often used in cooking and baking due to its strong, sweet flavor.
