Baking Soda

Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) is a chemical leavener used in baking. Due to its scientific composition, when combined with an acid, baking soda will release carbon dioxide, causing the ingredients to rise.

Baking soda is not only a key agent in baking, it is also used for its medicinal properties and as a natural cleaning agent. It helps neutralize acid in the stomach and kidneys, as well as lactic acid in muscles. Its alkalizing properties make it a natural aid for sunburns and bug bites; it's also used as an alternative to deodorant and toothpaste.
